If you ever find yourself venturing out to The Netherlands with a stop in Amsterdam, first contact me and invite me to come along and then I will show you how to best spend your time there.

No, I’m kidding. Just go and have fun!

But… If you need a bucket list for your stay in Amsterdam, consider this as a guide to your bucket list!

10. Walk around the Dam Square

Dam Square is just a five-minute walk from the Centraal Station. In this jam-packed square, packed with locals and tourists day and night, you will see food stalls, restaurants and shops galores, including the Bijenkorf, Magna Plaza, Bonneterie and the Amsterdam Diamond centre.

This is a good spot to start though. This is pretty much the center of the city and you would be able to figure out the city map faster if you started in this area.

9. Take a photo with the “I Amsterdam” letters

Who would miss out on this one? You can easily find this spot behind the Rijksmuseum. I’d suggest you to take a tour of the museum before checking out this spot.

Consider yourself extremely lucky if you caught a picture of yourself and the IAmsterdam Sign without the swarming people in the background. Be sure to send me a picture if you have done that! =P

8. Go to the Rijksmuseum

Trust me on this one: smoke a reefer before taking a tour of the Rijksmuseum. I’ve done this with John back in November 2014 and it was totally fun for both of us. We spent over three hours in this museum—we couldn’t stop talking about certain art because it led us to a web of countless subjects!

Stoned or not, it will take you around all day if you really want to be detailedly completed with the museum. That’s up to you. John and I kind of rushed our time there and check out the most famous ones because we had a schedule to follow at the time.

7. Relax at Vondelpark

Excellent spot for a picnic! I was told by the locals that the Vondelpark is a popular summer spot for Amsterdam. It would be beautiful and packed with locals and tourists.

Such a bummer that I came here in the fall when it was a lot more quiet, but the colors of the leaves and the nature of the park become very bold and bright in autumn colors. Therefore, don’t miss out on this if you’re visiting Amsterdam in the summer!

6. Pay your respect at the Anne Frank Huis

Walking through the Anne Frank House was beyond heart-touching. I had goosebumps all over me while I learned about Anne’s experience hiding from the Nazis. I cannot explain any further here. It’s one of those things you will have to see for yourself.

Expect a long line if you didn’t make reservations in advance. John and I didn’t make any reservation, but it took us over an hour to finish the long line! It wasn’t the peak season, but it was still quite long. Imagine yourself in the line without reservations if you went during the peak season! Who knows how long it’d take you.

5. Smoke some pot at the first coffeeshop

When you visit The BullDog Coffeeshop, Be sure to eyeball for the term ‘reefer’ if you want a pure marijuana cigarette. John and I bought a joint, which is a cigarette mixed with both tobacco and marijuana because we thought it was pure marijuana. Stupid tourists, weren’t we? =P

You gotta drink their house coffee! Their coffee’s so good. Your tastebuds will be blown away!

4. Experience the Heineken Brewery

Heineken… Who wouldn’t come here? If you really want to have one of the best beer-tasting experience, this is the place to go! I literally melted to the freshest pint of cold beer they served me! It was one of most smooth drink I ever had!

Wait… Do you need 10 more reasons to check this brewery? Fret not, I got that done for you in this article.

3. Ride a canal boat

Amsterdam was build around canals and the map of the city is based on the canals. So, it’s a must to ride a boat through the canals like a boss! =P Truth to be told, you can’t get lost in Amsterdam if you just follow the canals.

Let’s say I was fortunate to have this unique experience with a Dutch girl! However, riding with a friend or partner would be ideal. 😉

2. Check out the Red Light District

One of the first things that comes to your mind when someone mentions ‘Amsterdam’ would be the Red Light District, right? I think everybody knows the answer. The District is always filled with people and prostitutes at night! You gonna come here when it’s at night. That’s when it becomes exciting.

Not sure what to do at the Red Light District? Don’t worry, I got three things for you to do in the District. 😉

1. Rent a bike and ride everywhere

Screen Shot 2015-08-12 at 5.59.25 PM

Self-explanatory. Amsterdam is a bike city and you will see almost everybody riding their bikes around. Even bikes all over rails and outside walls of buildings. One thing I know for a face is that people who ride bicycles have the first right of way on roads over pedestrians and cars.

If you haven’t ridden a bike in Amsterdam, then what have you been doing?! Seriously…
