Bangalore is the state capital of Karnataka, which is an important South Indian state. It is also known as the Silicon Valley of India, after the seat of technology in California. It is the prime IT hub in India, as most of the Indian IT companies have their headquarters in this city. It is also the seat of the Kannada Film Industry. Thus, it is one of the leading productive metropolitan cities in India, as several production houses are based here. Many state-owned organizations are also based in Bangalore, now renamed Bengaluru after its original name as mentioned in ancient inscriptions.

How to reach Bangalore

People can reach Bangalore by flight from all major Indian cities and many foreign cities. Several airlines, like Air India, IndiGo, GoAir, and SpiceJet, run regular international and domestic flights to Kempegowda International Airport and various other airports in India and abroad. Many cheap flights are also offered by some low-cost airlines so that people can reach this city at an affordable range.

Many Express trains are available to reach Bengaluru City Railway Station or Yesvantpur Junction, from Delhi, Mumbai, and other major cities in India. There are also regular bus services run by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and some private bus operators from Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Coimbatore, and other nearby cities, by which people can comfortably reach Bangalore.

Geography

Bangalore is located at the centre of the Mysore Plateau and to the southeastern part of Karnataka. Hence, the land of this city is mostly flat while its western side is a hilly region. River Arkavathy is a tributary of River Kaveri, which meets South Pennar River at Nandi Hills that is 60 Km towards the north of this city. River Vrishabhavathi is a tributary of River Arkavathy, flowing through the city and carrying all the sewage emerging from local buildings. The entire area of Bangalore is divided into 3 districts, namely Bangalore Urban district, Bangalore Rural district, and Ramanagara. Plenty of natural and manmade lakes are in Bangalore, among which Hebbal Lake, Madivala Tank, Ulsoor Lake, and Sankey Tank are notable.

Climate

Due to its elevated location on a plateau, Bangalore enjoys a pleasant climate throughout the year. Usually, summer temperature does not cross 37 degrees C even during the daytime while winter temperature does not dip below 13 degrees C during the night. The months of August to October receive the highest amount of rainfall while the annual rainfall is averagely measured to be 970 mm or more. Usually, rainfall occurs in the late afternoon, evening or night, as per the recent records of the local meteorological department.

Language

Kannada is the official language used in Bangalore, as it is the mother tongue of the local inhabitants of Karnataka. Approximately 45% of the population of this city speaks this Dravidian language while Tamil and Telugu are also spoken by a large number of people here. Since people from all over India come here for job purposes, different minor linguistic communities are also found in this city. However, almost all residents in the urban area are quite fluent in English, which is a relief for tourists.

Places to see

Bangalore Palace is the prime tourist attraction of this city, which was made in 1878 over an area of 45000 square feet, 3 Km away from the modern city center. Its interior and exterior wooden carvings add to the grandeur of its architecture, which is a combination of Gothic and Tudor styles.

Bannerghatta National Park is located at a distance of only 22 Km from Bangalore, started in 1971. Apart from the huge variety of natural flora and fauna, it houses a zoo, a crocodile farm, a snake park, an aquarium, and a unique prehistoric animals’ park. This place is also ideal for hiking and trekking, as it is built over an area of 104 sq. Km.
